Sneak Peek into a
Virtual Starseed Class

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 11:00 am – 4:00 pm EST

Elementary (lower school )Begins in Our One-Room Schoolhouse

5 hours a day, 3 days a-week online can be taxing, for sure. For this reason, we encourage our students to wear Blue Light glasses to help alleviate the negative effects of sitting at a computer for that amount of time. Kids do not have to “sit still” the entire time. They are able to use sensory objects to help them focus.

Check out the video below and watch as Sedona shows us how she uses her sensory objects.

WITH MR. GORDON

MATH

The general opinion and desire of the student body is to do math in the morning and “get the difficult stuff out of the way”.

Mr. Gordon takes turns to work through each student’s assignment.

20 MINUTE BREAK

This allows for the kids on the East, and Central time zones to have a short lunch break. They are strongly encouraged to spend a few minutes outside in nature during breaks and lunch.

SCIENCE | SOCIAL STUDIES CIVICS | GEOGRAPHY

Science, and Social Studies/Civics/Geography

Mr. Gordon will periodically add in a grammar or reading comprehension lesson at this time as well where each student will take a turn reading and completing a worksheet depending on their grade level.

10 MINUTE BREAK

To stretch, get a drink of water or grab a snack

LANGUAGE ARTS

English skills and when time permits Spanish language/speaking skills.

20 MINUTE BREAK

To allow time for a lunch break for our kids in MST and PST time zones.

SPELLING & CREATIVE WRITING

Time to write using their spelling words or alternatively time to spend being still and writing what they observe either inside or outside. Then we have our last quick break for 10 minutes.

END OF DAY 10-MINUTE BREAK

Time to wind down for a chapter or two of reading by Mr. Gordon. Mr Gordon also takes this time to play the guitar, sing songs and take song requests. A great way to end the day HAPPY & REFRESHED

WEDNESDAYS – MINDFUL ART

Mr. Ajje helps the kids tap into their creative side. This year, the kids are learning how to turn their art into NFTs (Non-fungible tokens) which are digital art assets.

FRIDAYS – QUIZ DAY

On Fridays, we have quiz day. If the kids do not pass everything on the quiz they are encouraged to study and retest the following week.

OFFLINE SCHOOL DAYS

Starseed Holistic School has 2 days during the school week where we are offline. We feel it is necessary since we are mostly virtual to limit our online school time. For families that like to travel or have busy schedules, offline school days are an awesome feature. This allows for flexibility of different family lifestyles and each child’s diverse learning styles. Some children learn great outdoors, and some learn better in a quiet room. Choose what works best for your child and go with it! Family support is needed approximately 5 hours a day, 2 days a week. These additional 10 hours a week can be broken up throughout the day or the entire week including the weekends.

We have a 40 week outline for each grade to follow. Parents have access to our database full of different curriculums for kids to choose from. Stareed Holistic School feels it is important to give our students certain choices throughout the day of what they are learning. The idea it to keep it fun for them, which makes it a lot more enjoyable for the parents and the students absorb the knowledge easier.

Our students are encouraged to change up their school setting. Head outside on a nice day to learn one of the lessons or read a book under a tree. Go for a nature adventure either on foot or for a drive to awesome spot to explore. Pack up a picnic lunch and perhaps bring your art supplies. While on the drive in the car, students can work on some of their assignments, or watch educational videos. While on your exploration, read any signs around the area to learn about where you are. Encourage them how to research any educational spots to learn more. Some kids learn math better in the kitchen, use dried beans at tactical counters. We often use cooking or baking as the math or science lesson for the day. They love being able to create something yummy and learning math! Get creative, have your child set up a store, restaurant, or an art gallery. Have them make price tags or a menu, teach them to run a business at the same time as teaching them math. These are amazing teaching experiences that they will cherish forever.
